My journey down the path of the artist, began in a pain n’ sip class, I purchased on my birthday! I was looking for something fun to try, my co-worker had a painting from one in her cubicle and overhead her talking about it and I thought it sound like a good time. Although, I had been working on branching out, I still had a tendency to be a bit of a loner, so I went by myself. It was a simple painting and I was having fun. I even helped the girl next to me with hers. The instructor came by to discuss my work and she mention that she could tell by the way I held the paintbrush that I had talent. She invited me to her open studio, which turned out to be just a few blocks from my home. I was having a lot fun and thought that I would like to go. Being a single mom that has my child home on 98% of evenings and weekends it took almost a year for me to make it a few blocks down the road to her studio. But, I felt that this was a Divine appointment that I needed to keep. My first visit to Lilly studios was two summers ago and it changed my life. Maureen encouraged me to develop my artistic talent. She also introduced me Aurora’s art community. I have grown so much in the past two yeas. Painting has enabled me to establish new friendships, encouraged me to become a part of my towns community and filled a creative void that was present in my life. It has also given me a new passion and greater dreams for my life.
To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. So do it.” Kurt Vonnegut
